We just found out today that one of the main orphanages that our adoption agency partners with had their license to operate revoked by the Ethiopian Government. The reason the license was revoked is because this partner’s organization primarily works in adoption and not enough in doing other humanitarian work. Even though our agency continues to do a lot of humanitarian work they are still unable to operate its own child care center therefore requiring partnerships with local organizations to provide care for the children waiting to be adopted.
We presume that this will definitely slow down the wait to be matched with Judah since this was the largest orphanage that Holt partnered with. Some very sad news is that at this time there won’t be Birth Parent Meetings because the agency which had its license revoked was the party responsible for setting up these meetings. This was something that would have been so special to be able to share with Judah when s/he grows up. Hopefully something will change again and there will be an opportunity to meet the person(s) who gave Judah life.
The only thing constant in life is CHANGE… definitely learning this lesson firsthand!
Our son has been home since Jan 2010 and came from one of the closed orphanages. We are anxious to hear more about why they are being closed. The explanation you offered in this post is the first explanation I've come across. We are saddened because this likely means the chance for any kind of communication with his birth mother in the future is slim. We are also on the waitlist with AGCI for our second child and were hoping our kids could share the same tribal heritage. Hanging on to see what all this means for the kiddos, the birth families, and those of us waiting to adopt them! I received a link to your blog from a friend who knows your brother. I love the 12 month pregnant photo. It's too funny and too true! Feel free to take a peak at our blog if you would like. www.milfammilwaukee.blogspot.com. Blessings to you as you wait!
