The Lion of Judah (Haile Sellassie) on the old Ethiopian flag was our inspiration for naming our baby Judah!

Beginning the journey

In June of 2010 we decided to start our family by adopting through Holt International. We chose adopting from Ethiopia for many reasons. The two main reasons is that we wanted to adopt a baby as young as possible and because the influence Holt has in Ethiopia is phenomenal! Holt not only adopts children but also improves childcare and child welfare systems through a variety of programs for orphans and children at risk in Ethiopia. Ethiopia has an estimated 4.3 million homeless children.

For the last six months we have been in the middle of a paperwork frenzy!!! Adopting is quite a process! This month we finally finished our home study which is a great hurdle to finally be over. The next step we need to complete is getting approval from immigration which should take about 8 weeks once we send in our application. Once that is done then we will submit our Dossier (official paperwork to go to the Ethiopian Government) and finally be on the waiting list to be matched with our little Judah! We are hoping that by the new year we will be at that point.

Over the holidays we plan on setting up our nursery which will have an African safari flare! Looking forward to posting pictures soon I hope! Stay tuned...
